Josh Allen scored three goals for Luton’s development side against Crawley Green

Young striker Josh Allen scored a hat-trick as development side Luton Town kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 9-0 victory over SSML Premier League side Crawley Green at Top Field on Tuesday night.

The striker, who was one of four players to sign new terms with the club Monday night was part of a squad that included Ed McJannet and Casey Pettit, the latter appearing for the first team in their friendly win at the same venue against Hitchin Town recently.

The Hatters took the lead with just 13 minutes when Ireland U19 international McJannet sent the ball over the line after a scramble for goal.

It was 2-0 moments later, McJannet with his second, curling into the top corner after a cut from Allen, while Tra Lucas was soon on target, beating the keeper after being cleared by Pettit.

Allen then put himself on the scoresheet midway through the first half with an emphatic finish from 10 yards out, doubling his own tally on 38 minutes making the most of a determined run from Lucas.

The youngster completed his hat-trick on the stroke of halftime with great skill to beat his marker then dink a finish on the keeper

After the break Luton switched sides, with new additions to the development squad Tyrell Giwa and Tobias Braney both being eliminated, while a seventh arrived thanks to one of Luton’s three trials riders on display .

In the final states, youngster Oli Lynch bagged a late brace for the Hatters, who travel to Harpenden Town on Friday night.

The U18s open their warm-up matches with a behind-closed-doors home friendly against their counterparts who are playing today as part of Southern League club Redditch United’s full-time football and education programme.
