WSU Volleyball prepares for the Apple Cup on Saturday

Good afternoon, Coug fans!

It’s Rivalry Weekend, and fans across the state are bracing for epic showdowns between your Washington State Cougars and our only real enemy – the University of Washington Huskies.

The football kicks off tonight, as you all know, but joining them in Seattle to make their mark and try to conquer the city is our favorite volleyball team.

This isn’t the first time this season that WSU and UW have faced each other – their last clash was the previous Apple Cup weekend on September 26. The Cougs managed to win the majority of sets, winning the series 3-2.

The Cougs will enter this round 19-10 against 23-4 for UW. This is no cause for concern, as Cougs thrive under pressure. One funny thing to remember is WSU’s much closer loss to UCLA, where the Cougs fell 2-3, while UCLA was able to stop UW entirely, beating them 3-0. The only other losses on the UW schedule were Utah, which we’ve seen from experience to be a tough game, and us.

In the last meeting, junior Pia Timmer had a big game with a total of 31 kills, 4 aces and 7 blocks during the match. However, you may have noticed that the outside hitter hasn’t played in the last few games, and her absence was particularly felt against Utah on Wednesday when the Cougs lost 0-3.

While this game won’t help the Cougs advance to the Conference Championship, there is still room for the NCAA tournament, as well as UW’s overwhelming hopes of heading to the Conference Championship. (assuming all dominoes fall where they need them).

And as our exciting soccer section wraps up tonight, you’ll have more coug sports to check out tomorrow after all! The game is at 1 p.m. PST on the Pac 12 networks, you don’t want to miss it! And what else would you like to watch?

Personally, I love Rivalry Weekend, I have always been amused and fascinated by the nature of rivalries, and for a personal anecdote this is the first Thanksgiving and Apple Cup series that I haven’t been able to enjoy. with my father. So give your loved ones an extra hug, unless they’re Husky fans! Go Cougs!
