There are quite a few talented young Irish players making their way into the game at the moment.
The senior international team have bloodied Gavin Bazunu, Jason Knight and Dara O’Shea (to name a few) over the past 18 months or so, with more youngsters likely to settle in that side in the months to come.
The national miners’ teams also have plenty of eye-catching talents, including Kevin Zefi.
The Dubliner was a much-vaunted prospect who rose through the ranks at Shamrock Rovers, so much so that he was coveted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
He would move to Inter Milan earlier this year, a few months after his 16th birthday.
Considering the level of competition in Italy, you imagine it might take him a while to settle in. He doesn’t seem to have such problems.
Zefi netted a hat-trick for Inter U17 side in their game against Hellas Verona this weekend, helping the team to win 4-0.
You can watch his goals below, with the first and third strikes particularly impressive.

Playing on the wing or as a more central striker, he certainly has an eye for the goal.
Zefi has represented Ireland at various levels of minors, most recently switching to the Under-19 side despite his age.
He has been very impressive every time he has donned a green jersey, including a brace in a win over England a few years ago.

His age means he will probably still be a long way off before first-team football becomes a real possibility (likely on loan), but it is encouraging to see Zefi progressing at such a massive club.
He is certainly one to watch.
