The community is gearing up for St Ronan’s Games Week: what’s going on?


GAMES week is back in Innerleithen with many events planned for the town.

The St Ronan Border Games have been suspended since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the annual event is back.

From next Friday, the events will kick off with the Automotive Scavenger Hunt, with clue sheets available at the Innerleithen post office from 12pm and can be completed at any time of the week.

On Saturday July 9, the five-a-side football tournament will take place at Victoria Park from noon.

And Saturday night will see the return of the flag bearer’s ball at St Ronan’s Marquee.

The festivities will continue on Sunday with the Kirkin Parade and Service, plus children’s sports and treats.

Thursday (July 14) will see the return of the fancy dress parade, then Friday the town will join in the Cleikum ceremonies.

The big day will then arrive on Saturday with the St Ronan’s Border Games on Saturday at Victoria Park.

Friday July 8 – Car treasure hunt, La Poste, forms available from 12 p.m.

Saturday, July 9 – Five-a-side football tournament, Victoria Park, 12 p.m.; Ball of the flag bearer, St Ronan marquee, 7 p.m.-2 a.m.

Sunday, July 10 – Kirkin’ Parade and Service, Hall Street at 10:30 a.m., Parish Church at 11 a.m.; City Bands Entertain, High Street, 2 p.m.; Kids Sports and Treats, Victoria Park, 3 p.m.

Tuesday, July 12 – Over 60s Night, Memorial Hall, 7:30 p.m., free tickets from The Thrift Shop

Wednesday, July 13 – Quiz Night, 856 Social Club, 8 p.m.

Thursday, July 14 – Costume Parade, Victoria Park, 7 p.m.

Friday, July 15 – St Ronan’s Cleikum Ceremonies, Memorial Hall, 7 p.m.; “For the dead”, 7:45 p.m.; Ceremony at St Ronan’s Wells, 8:30 p.m.; Torchlight procession to the Masonic ceremony, Hall Street, 10:15 p.m.

Saturday, July 16 – Children’s Flower Parade, Hall Street, 11 a.m.; Run Around Town, Hall Street, 1:30 p.m., followed by Games Opening Parade, Vale Club; 195th Anniversary of St Ronan Border Games, Victoria Park, 2 p.m.; Beat Retreat, High Street, 7 p.m.; Burn the De’il, Caerlee Hill, 10:30 p.m.
