Ryan Giles nets a hat-trick of first-half assists for Middlesbrough

Wolves youngster Ryan Giles made a brilliant first impression on loan at Middlesbrough, helping himself with three assists last night.

The 22-year-old stole the show as Boro did some light work on League One side Morecambe.

Chris Wilder’s side played some great football in their penultimate game of the pre-season.

And Giles was at the forefront of the offensive display.

Giles delivered a nasty cross for Marcus Tavernier to score with a powerful header in the 14th minute.

He then slipped a ball for Matt Crooks, who had made a blistering run into the box.

And then just before halftime, Giles made another quality delivery, this time for Riley McGree to go home.

In their match report, Teesside Live wrote: “Every time the 22-year-old received the ball he looked like he was making things happen, and he pretty much did that by scoring all three goals from Boro in the first half, while providing other nasty deliveries too.

“Boro needs strikers, we all know that, but Boro’s attack looks to be much better in the coming season if Giles can keep his form at this level.”

Wolves have high hopes for Giles this season.

Last season he got off to a fantastic start for Cardiff City, bagging nine assists in 21 appearances.

Wolves recalled him in January to provide extra first-team cover, but he was ultimately given no minutes.

The club then sent him to Blackburn Rovers for the remainder of the campaign, where he struggled to regain his form.

Boro fans can expect a lot more assists from Giles this season.

The youngster’s best trait is his ability to send a ball into the box.

Last year, Scott Sellars described Giles as one of the best young ball crossers in the country.

Hopefully Giles can immediately build on his performance against Morecambe and establish himself as a go-to player under Wilder.
