The Roman Catholic college football team will travel to Reading to open the 2022 campaign against Wilson West Lawn. Team 5A is hoping to score a big “W” to start the season on the right foot and try to improve on their 3-7 record in last year’s fiercely competitive Catholic League Red Division. The Red Division features perennial powerhouses Archbishop Wood, LaSalle and St Joe’s Prep. Roman pulled off a 27-20 upset against LaSalle in 2021 as well as a convincing 44-16 rout of Inter’s stalwart Penn Charter -Ac, so they’re more than capable of taking on the big boys. Head coach Rick Prete and his superb team of assistants believe Roman has enough weaponry to progress through a tough schedule that also includes Trinity (Shiremanstown, Pa.), Malvern, Perkiomen Valley, and Western Catholic. The photos are from a recent heavyweight scrum at Public League Northeast High, where Roman more than held on. The coaches hope that the same level of intensity and execution that has been demonstrated will continue in the regular season.
