O’Leary’s hat-trick lets Iveleary fly

Iveleary impressed on their first outing at Cork Premier Intermediate Football Championship level by ruthlessly beating St Vincent.

Iveleary opened the scoring with a well-shot 45 from goalkeeper Joe Creedon, with St Vincent’s reply by a point from Cork Senior Blake Murphy.

Iveleary took the lead again thanks to a clean free catch from Cathal Vaughan, who also got a good point from long range.

Murphy responded with another score from Vincent. But then Iveleary found the back of the net, as Ian Jones hit home a low strike to put the Mid Cork side ahead 1-3 at 0-2 on the quarter hour.

Five minutes later Iveleary scored his second, a fine solo run from Conor O’Leary cutting through Vincent’s defense – he kept his composure and finished cleanly.

Iveleary finished the first half with confidence. Daniel O’Riordan made a dashing run forward from the back before splitting the posts with a nice score. That was before Vaughan charged in with a neat effort on the corner – 2-6 from 0-5 at the break.

Iveleary continued to show great accuracy in the second half. O’Leary scored for the second time when he sent the ball home. And Vincent’s task was made even more difficult when they were reduced to 14 men, following a red card to Murphy.

Conor O’Leary completed his hat-trick for Iveleary in the final ten minutes with another well-taken finish from close range.
