A few takeaways from the map:

The Northwest and the Pacific

  • The 49ers are the best-selling team in California, although the state also has the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers.
  • Further inland, this is where it gets weird. Nevada sells a lot of Indianapolis Colts jerseys while Montana sells a lot of Oakland Raiders jerseys. According to Dick’s, Andrew Luck was the best-selling jersey in Nevada; however, a wide variety of players, such as Matt Forte, Russell Wilson and Robert Griffin III came in second. There doesn’t appear to be any specific Nevada Colts allegiance
  • And it gets even stranger on the continental-48. The St. Louis Rams sell a lot of jerseys in Alaska and the Carolina Panthers are popular in Hawaii. According to Dick’s, the best-selling jersey in Alaska was James Laurinaitis of the Rams, followed by Von Miller of the Broncos. Neither are from or attended school in Alaska. In Hawaii, the best-selling jersey belonged to Luke Kuechly, who also doesn’t appear to have any obvious connections to Hawaii.

Midwest and Southwest

  • The Denver Broncos control much of the region – Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and New Mexico
  • The popularity of the Washington Redskins in Nebraska and the Cleveland Browns in Oklahoma is somewhat surprising. According to Dick’s, Johnny Manziel’s jersey represented two of every jersey sale in Oklahoma, likely thanks to his famous college career at Texas A&M.
  • The Dallas Cowboys are Texas’ big sellers – sorry, the Houston Texans.
  • The Kansas City Chiefs sell more jerseys in Missouri than the St. Louis Rams.

Central

  • It is perhaps the least surprising region of all. The Packers, Bears, Colts, Lions, Browns and Titans all sell the most jerseys in their respective states.

South

  • The New Orleans Saints are the most popular team, selling a lot of jerseys in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.
  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lead the Miami Dolphins jersey sales in Florida.
  • The Steelers are popular in Arkansas.

Atlantic and Northeast

  • The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, the Eagles outsmart the Baltimore Ravens in neighboring Delaware.
  • New Jersey is the state of the New York Giants, but New York state is owned by the Buffalo Bills.
  • The Patriots sell a lot of jerseys throughout much of New England, with the exception of Connecticut, which is a more popular place for Giants jerseys.
  • Sorry again, Jets
