NFL clothing giant Nike suspends deal with Deshaun Watson amid sexual assault allegations

Nike has suspended its sponsorship deal with NFL star Deshaun Watson amid allegations of sexual assault and improper conduct against Houston Texans quarterback.

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and have suspended Deshaun Watson,” said Nike, the official apparel sponsor of the league. “We will continue to monitor the situation closely. ”

Headphone giant Beats by Dre ended its relationship with Watson earlier in the week.

Watson also has permanent endorsement agreements with Rolex, the Texas-based HEB grocery chain, and Reliant Energy.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league is continuing its investigation into Watson.

“The allegations are deeply troubling and we take these issues very seriously,” he said. “Immediately after the first allegations were announced last month and as reported, we launched an investigation under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

“We continue to closely monitor all developments in this area.”

One of Watson’s early accusers – massage therapist Ashley Solis – tearfully shared her story at a press conference hosted by Houston attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents her and 21 other women who have sued lawsuits.

“I am here to take back power and take back control,” Solis said. “I am a survivor of assault and harassment.”
