An NFL rule change in April gave players more options for how many they can wear on the court – but it comes at a price, literally. Some players jump at the chance to revert to their beloved college numbers or mix them up in some other way, while Tom Brady says he’s opposed to the idea.
Here’s what you need to know about NFL players who change their numbers:
What is the cost for an NFL player to change his jersey number?
If a player wants to change his shirt number, he must first buy unsold jerseys with his old number on it. Depending on the inventory of his jersey, this could add up!
Dalvin cook, for his part, chose to stick with his No.33 on the Minnesota Vikings because the price of his unsold jerseys was reportedly $ 1.5 million.
Teams, however, do not have to purchase a player’s existing jersey inventory if they cut it.
