Manchester United have lost patience for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong as the midfielder has been reluctant to move to Old Trafford. As a result, the Red Devils have turned their attention to Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz, according to Italian newspaper Il Matino. The midfielder has been in high demand since last summer after his impressive performances with the Italian side.
Erik ten Hag has been calling for midfield reinforcements since taking over the club and only Christian Eriksen has arrived in this department. The United midfielder has seen more exits than entries, with Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Andreas Parreira having left in the summer.
Manchester United submit first offer for Fabian Ruiz
Manchester United, despite agreeing an €85m deal for Frenkie de Jong with Barcelona, were unable to get him through. The midfielder himself doesn’t want to leave the Camp Nou and it looks like United aren’t dwell on signing him anymore. Ten Hag has since asked the club to identify De Jong’s alternatives and seal the deal for whoever fits the bill.
Il Matino’s report claims that United have submitted an official offer for Fabian Ruiz. The 20-time Premier League champions have no intention of entering into extended negotiations for the Spaniard and have therefore opened talks with his agent.
Although the figure for the offer hasn’t been disclosed yet, Napoli have reportedly rejected it. The Gli Azzurri are open to receiving offers for their highly rated talent to avoid the risk of losing him for free next summer when his contract expires. Ruiz gave up on an extension after elite clubs across Europe showed interest in him.
However, the Napoli side want at least €25m to part ways with Fabian Ruiz. One could consider that United’s offer would have been much lower than the price quoted by Napoli. Nevertheless, €25m won’t be much in demand for the Red Devils who are keen to complete a deal as soon as possible.
Ruiz, who naturally operates as a central midfielder, can also be deployed as a defensive midfielder. He has established himself as one of Europe’s hottest prospects after consistently delivering for Napoli. The 26-year-old registered 7 goals and 5 assists in 38 appearances last term across all competitions.
The midfielder further tallied 1.7 tackles, 10 passes under pressure, 2.5 shot creation actions, 14.3 pressures and 5 progressive carries per game in his 32 Serie A appearances. numbers, Ruiz could fit perfectly into Ten Hag’s and cost three times less than De Jong.
