Navi Bombay (Maharashtra) [India], Jan 26 (ANI): Chinese Taipei have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the AFC India 2022 Women’s Asian Cup after beating Islamic Republic of Iran 5-0 in their last match of the Group A at DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday.
Lai Li-Chin scored a hat-trick with Chen Yen-Ping and Wang Hsiang-Huei scoring one apiece as Chinese Taipei secured second place in Group A behind China PR to advance to the knockout stage .
Both teams, having suffered defeats against China, entered the encounter fully aware that their respective fates were in their hands, with Chinese Taipei needing only a draw to propel Iran into the quarter-finals. final.
Iran, participating in their first AFC Women’s Asian Cup, got their first look at goal in the third minute when Melika Motevalli nearly caught Chinese Taipei taking a nap, but her powerful header was parried by guard Cheng Ssu-Yu.

Chinese Taipei almost found their way back into the net in the 55th minute when Lai sent a trick ball into the penalty area, but substitute Chi Ting sent her shot straight into Khodaei’s arms. There was to be more agony for Iran, however, as they conceded a 63rd-minute penalty after Motevalli fouled Su Yu-Hsuan, Lai sending Khodaei the wrong way to seal his hat-trick.
Chinese Taipei made it 5-0 in the 78th minute through substitute Wang Hsiang-Huei, who collected the ball deep from Su Yu-Hsuan before heading home to seal the emphatic victory. (ANI)
