Cumann na mBunscol Westmeath Division 5 Football Final: Scoil Phádraig, Milltown 9-3, Kilcleagh NS, Castledaly 2-7

Louie Dillon and Tristan Duncan both scored hat-tricks as an impressive Scoil Phádraig, Milltown side overcame Kilcleagh NS, Castledaly in the Division 5 football final last Thursday afternoon at TEG Cusack Park.

There was very little between two well-rehearsed teams in the first quarter, at the end of which the boys in green led 3-0 (two from Dillon and one from Duncan) to 1-4 (a goal from Josh Duffy, and points from the boots of Michael Fox, two from Alex Pillion and Duffy from a free).

However, Milltown took control at this point and they scored an unanswered 2-3 for the rest of the first half.

Jack McDonald (a drop kick) and Samuel Byrne (who rolled the ball home) scored the goals, while Byrne also picked up a pair of game points and McDonald converted a free. Milltown led 5-3 to 1-4 at the break.

Byrne and Duffy traded goals shortly after the restart, but Milltown continued to pounce for two more three-pointers within minutes, courtesy of Duncan and Dillon.

Hard worker Duffy scored three more points in the closing stages, all on free runs, but these were canceled out by Duncan’s third goal.

After the game, Derek Butler, chairman of Cumann na mBunscol at Westmeath, presented the trophy to winning captains Louie Dillon and Jack McDonald.
