The new version of the USFL kicked off this weekend with a primetime game on Saturday night. On Sunday, the Michigan Panthers and Houston Gamblers featured a battle between two of the league’s biggest coaching names, Jeff Fisher and Kevin Sumlin.
Fisher, 64, returned to practice for the first time since 2016, when his time with the Los Angeles Rams ended. Despite a rather lackluster end to his long NFL career, Fisher is still remembered for leading the Tennessee Titans to the Super Bowl in 1999 and putting together some very strong Titans teams during his 17 years in charge. this franchise.
The Fisher Panthers got off to a rough start on Saturday thanks to questionable quarterback play from Shea Patterson and Paxton Lynch as the team entered the locker room with a 17-0 loss. It must have been a rough time for Fisher, which perhaps explains the puzzled look on his face when the cameras rolled in on him at one point. And given the retro cap he wore at the time, it was about time Fisher officially became the new USFL’s first meme.

The resurrection of Jesus and the return of Jeff Fisher as coach on the same day, a coincidence? I do not think so… pic.twitter.com/dJvDKPLVvM

It’s just nice to have Jeff Fisher back in our lives, even if he doesn’t seem to be enjoying things so far…
