Blackburn to challenge Rangers for the player who scored a hat trick this week

Blackburn Rovers set to challenge Rangers for Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, according to Daily check-in.

He would ultimately choose to join Leeds from the Dutch giants, but he missed out on first-team opportunities at Elland Road.

Last weekend, The daily mail reported [via The Scottish Sun] that Rangers were considering a loan for the young Dutch international, as Gio van Bronckhorst looks to improve his options ahead of the second half of the season.

Summerville responded to the speculation by scoring a 26-minute treble for Leeds U23s against Sunderland in the Premier League Cup on Wednesday.

However, the Rangers would now face competition to land the 20-year-old, with the Daily check-in reporting that Blackburn, the EFL Championship team, is also considering a loan deal.

It is claimed they are looking for reinforcements after loan winger Ian Poveda was forced to return to Leeds due to injury.

James Marshment of TEAMtalk tweeted an update on Saturday claiming Leeds are looking to delay any decision on Summerville until more is known about other players’ injuries.

Could Blackburn beat the Rangers in Summerville?

Until recently, it would have been obvious to choose Rangers over Blackburn.

It’s probably not that simple anymore, however. The Rovers are contenders for a surprise promotion this season, with forward Ben Brereton Diaz lighting up the championship.

Moreover, English clubs often have a negative opinion of the quality of Scottish football and Leeds already have some sort of relationship with Blackburn as evidenced by Poveda’s loan change.

However, at the Rangers, Summerville would have the opportunity to play in front of much larger crowds, compete for major silverware and possibly make the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Surely, if the player himself has the option, he will always choose Ibrox.

Meanwhile, a loaned Rangers player scored the winner as his adoptive team caused the surprise on Saturday afternoon.
